How much does a Magento 1 to Magento 2 migration cost?
Unfortunately, there is a pretty significant financial investment to transition from Magento 1 to Magento 2. How much depends on if you want a new design, how many extensions or custom modules are involved, and how well the M1 site was developed originally. Our experience has been that a Magento migration from version 1 to version 2 costs 50-75% of the original Magento build.
What can be copied from Magento 1 to Magento 2?
- The data. We use a 3rd party professional migration tool that safely migrates and updates the M1 data to your new site without downtime on your live site.
What can be partially copied from Magento 1 to Magento 2?
- Custom features built into your theme and custom modules. We can copy the idea and much of the code logic. There are many differences to M2’s code structure, so custom code still has to be completely reformatted.
What can NOT be copied from Magento 1 to Magento 2?
- 3rd party extensions. These are very different from M1 to M2. 3rd party modules will need to be repurchased. Any module that is not available in M2 will need to be custom-built.
- The theme. The Magento 2 theme structure is completely different and must be recreated. Your M1 theme can be duplicated, but it’s also a good time to update the design of your site to use latest web technology.
